Ian began cycling after playing rugby league and union player from school into his mid-30s. An invite to a shop ride in Gladstone soon taught him that there is a big difference between football fitness and cycling fitness! He began to train more regularly with the small bunch in Gladstone and eventually took up racing at Rockhampton. This lead to the competitive desire being fuelled even more, and he soon travelled widely racing in various open and masters races in Qld, NSW and Victoria. The highlight being a second place in National Masters 2 Road Race, and a second place in B Grade Grafton – Inverell.
Throughout his cycling Ian has been coached and mentored by Cameron, and has developed an aspiration to help people enjoy their cycling, and to pick up the small details that will help get through especially long or hard days in the saddle. He enjoys the longer rides, and the satisfaction at the coffee shop of having covered a lot of territory, and a few hills!
